Around 80,000 tourists are stranded in the Chinese seaside resort of Sanya after authorities imposed a lockdown after cases of Covid-19 were discovered.
The restrictions in the city, located on Hainan Island in southern China, went into effect on Saturday morning. On Friday, there were 229 confirmed coronavirus cases, and another 129 on Saturday.
According to the authorities, any tourist wishing to leave Sanya must test negative on five PCR tests over a period of seven days.
China is applying a zero vision towards Covid-19, leading to constant local lockdowns even after a few cases of infection.
