China wants to see a Swedish-Norwegian railway

China is interested in financing a high-speed railway between Stockholm and Oslo, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.

A Chinese delegation traveled to Oslo a couple of weeks ago to discuss the project.
– We discussed how China can assist, possibly, with financing and with expansion capacity and expertise, says Alf S Johansen at the Värmland-Østfold Border Committee, which coordinates the project, to Ekot.

One of the projects that could be considered aims to rebuild and straighten existing tracks at a cost of over 50 billion kronor. The other involves building a completely new railway for high-speed trains, which would cost around 170 billion kronor.

”A profitable project”
According to estimates, the travel time between the capitals could be cut from over five hours to under three. The intended travelers are the people who currently fly between Oslo and Stockholm.
– It is a profitable project that you make money on after a few years, says Alf S Johansen.
The Chinese business delegation from the China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation visited Oslo in mid-January.
