One person has died and at least 37 have been injured after a commuter train crashed into a collapsed wall and derailed in Catalonia, Spanish media reports.

The accident occurred around 9 PM on Tuesday, between the stations of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Gelida, just outside Barcelona.

According to initial reports, the train collided head-on with the wall, which likely gave way after heavy rain in the area.

The deceased is the train driver, according to Catalan authorities. El País.

– Between four and six people are seriously injured, the others have minor injuries, said Gelida's mayor Lluís Valls to Catalunya Ràdio before the death was confirmed.

The accident occurs just two days after the serious train crash in Adamuz, in which 42 people died.
