The authorities in Argentina have issued an operating license (AOC) to Norwegian's wholly owned subsidiary Norwegian Air Argentina (NAA) last night Swedish time.
NAA is building an administration with necessary and legally required functions in Buenos Aires and will soon start flight operations under Argentine authorities.
“This is a new milestone for Norwegian. The approval means that we will soon be able to offer Argentines affordable airfares on new, comfortable planes,” says Norwegian CEO Bjørn Kjos.
– Norwegian has been well received by the authorities in Argentina who want more competition in the airline industry. Now there will be full focus on offering cheap flights to millions of passengers, something that will contribute to creating new jobs, economic growth and increased tourism, says Ole Christian Melhus, CEO of Norwegian Air Argentina.
In December 2017, the Argentine Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) approved Norwegian Air Argentina to start 153 routes from Argentina. NAA had applied for permission for a total of 156 routes. Norwegian's plans for a significant operation from Argentina involve both domestic and international routes. As of today, Norwegian has one Boeing 737-800 aircraft based in Argentina.
