A first wave of widespread rail strikes begins today in France.
Unions have called for two-day strikes every five days for the next three months in protest against French President Emmanuel Macron's reform plans.
The last time a French president took a stand against the railway unions over workers' benefits, it ended badly. Strikes in 1995 paralyzed Paris and forced then-Prime Minister Alain Juppe to roll back reforms.
