The train company MTR is reporting SJ to the Swedish Competition Authority and demanding that the company be allowed to sell its tickets on sj.se.

SJ believes that MTR's complaint is unreasonable and believes that MTR, which has a turnover of several billion, should spend more on trying to establish itself in the Swedish market, reports Dagens Nyheter.

According to the complaint, which the Siren news agency has seen, MTR believes that SJ, as a public state company, distorts competition in the market by not allowing MTR to sell its tickets on the same website as SJ, which also prevents SJ's passengers from finding other travel options.

MTR wants SJ to give them access to sell their tickets on the website and compensate MTR for lost profits.

”"We think it's obvious that it's SJ's tickets that are offered when you come to SJ's website. MTR is one of the world's largest train companies and is owned by the Chinese state. Why should a Swedish company have to sell their tickets? It's a company that's five times as big as us, and yet they don't want to pay for their own marketing. It's pathetic," Niclas Härenstam tells the newspaper.
