The government is investing 3.6 billion for the double-track expansion along the East Coast Line, reports P4 Gävleborg.

It is the stretch from Gävle further north to a junction called Kringlan, located between Bergby and Axmarby, where the East Coast Line and the Northern Main Line are connected, that is affected by the investment.

”"This route has poor speed and capacity. When we increase capacity here, we can travel the route faster the whole way," says Minister of Finance Per Bolund (MP), to P4 Gävleborg.

Construction is scheduled to start in 2024.
