Record low for punctuality – more than one in three long-distance trains delayed

Remove

More than one in three long-distance trains was delayed in May this year.

This is the worst punctuality since 2013, when the Swedish Transport Administration began measuring delays. But now the Swedish Transport Administration's press officer Bengt Olsson believes that things are turning around.

May was a real problem month for train traffic and there is a risk that it will continue to be disrupted. During the summer, several works will be carried out on the western main line and at Stockholm Central, which will reduce the number of trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg.

But the Swedish Transport Administration considers itself well prepared for any problems this summer, says press manager Bengt Olsson.

– We have incredible surveillance. Every day a separate plan is produced and handed over to traffic management every afternoon. It contains things like what could affect traffic? Do we need extra staffing somewhere? Extra surveillance? Which trains could be affected?

Worst measured punctuality

Punctuality in May was the worst since the Swedish Transport Administration began measuring in 2013. More than one in three long-distance trains was more than five minutes late, which is above the limit for a train to be considered punctual. This shows The Swedish Transport Administration's own statistics.
