Hundreds of commuters and vacationers were affected when one of Paris' busiest metro lines had to be evacuated on Tuesday evening.
The driverless trains were stopped by a power outage.
The malfunction occurred shortly after 8 p.m. in the Marais district of central Paris and eight trains had to be evacuated, according to a spokesperson for public transport company RATP. Many had to walk along the dark metro tracks to the next station to get out.
Traffic started up again at half past twelve at night.
According to the fire department, five people were treated for heat exhaustion after being trapped underground. France, like many other European countries, has experienced very high temperatures over the past week.
