A diligent and stubborn beaver could be the end of train traffic in Kalix.

The beaver has several times built a dam in a stream that flows from Byträsket in Börjelsbyn outside Kalix, and clogged a 22-meter-long and two-meter-wide drum under the railway, reports the Norrländska Socialdemokraten.

The construction risks causing train derailments and electrical safety accidents this winter, which is why the Swedish Transport Administration has now received approval for protective hunting of the animal.

The Hunters' Association has until December 31st to find the beaver.
