The Swedish subsidiary of Norwegian, a Norwegian low-cost airline, missed paying 19 million kronor in passenger tax to the Swedish government. The company was days away from the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden) starting to hunt for assets in Sweden. It reports Expressen.
According to Norwegian's Swedish press manager Charlotte Holmberg Jacobsson, the case went directly to the Swedish Enforcement Authority when Norwegian missed the original payment on July 27. She tells Expressen that it is a misunderstanding and that the missed tax payment has nothing to do with the company's financial situation.
”"We have now reviewed our systems to prevent this from happening again," says Charlotte Holberg Jacobsson to Expressen.
Norwegian is in a pressured position, partly due to the problems with Boeing's 737 Max plane, which according to the latest quarterly report is estimated to burden the Norwegian airline's full-year results by 700 million Norwegian kroner.
The stock has lost over 69 percent so far this year on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Earlier this year, the board decided on a new share issue of 3 billion Norwegian kroner, which caused the stock to plummet. Over the past three trading days, Norwegian has lost between just over 6 and 12 percent.
