A signal fault has disrupted large parts of train traffic in Skåne the day before Christmas Eve.

The train stop affects thousands of travelers – and SJ has no replacement buses available.

On Monday morning, trains between Malmö and Lund were halted after a signal failure in Arlöv. At 10:30 a.m., there was no forecast for when the tracks would reopen to normal traffic.

The train stop applies to almost all trains on the route in question, including SJ trains en route to and from Malmö.

”"We are appealing to the Swedish Transport Administration to allow us to run through as some trains have been released. We are very keen that our passengers arrive today, better a little late than not at all," says Stephan Ray, press spokesperson for SJ.

Currently, four SJ trains are affected, all of which are full. Two of them are in Malmö and two in Eslöv, and SJ's plan is to connect the trains with each other to save time.

Skånetrafiken offers replacement buses for passengers traveling between Malmö and Lund. However, SJ does not have this option as there is not a single available bus between Malmö and Jönköping, according to Stephan Ray.

”"All departures are basically sold out. There are lots of Christmas presents and lots of luggage, so of course we want to avoid having to stand still somewhere," says Stephan Ray.
