One year after the collapse of British travel company Thomas Cook, the brand is now being resurrected as a travel agency under Chinese ownership from Fosun Tourism Group, according to a press release.

The nearly 180-year-old brand will function as a booking service for flight tickets and package holidays to destinations currently open from London.

Thomas Cook will thus operate as a fully online-based travel agency selling tickets for travel to and from Italy, Greece, and Turkey, originating from the UK.

The Swedish part of Thomas Cook, Ving, was bought up by a consortium after last year's September bankruptcy. This consisted of Norwegian hotel magnate Petter Stordalen's parent company Strawberry Group, Swedish private equity firm Altor, and British private equity firm TDR Capital.
