5,000 in quarantine after one person's ski trip

5,000 people are in quarantine in the small Belgian town of Edegem, just south of Antwerp, after the rapid spread of the British corona mutation. It is believed that it is all because a single person defied the restrictions of the Belgian authorities and went on a skiing trip to Switzerland, reports TT.

Traveling is not prohibited, but Belgium requires that anyone who has been abroad in a risk zone must test themselves upon returning home, stay in quarantine for seven days, and then test themselves again.

The infection tracing has led to two schools in the municipality being forced to close until further notice. 5,000 people have been ordered into quarantine. Just over 2,000 of them are waiting for their test results this week, writes TT.

At the same time, it is being considered whether it is possible to claim damages from the woman.

“Not following the rules may be a mistake, but how do you prove that that particular case caused all the infection?” says lawyer Lukas De Graeve to Het Laatste Nieuws.
