American hotel searches at ten-year high

As the US begins to see the end of the pandemic, travel demand has also increased. According to Fortune Magazine, hotel searches are at their highest level in almost a decade.

The upswing began in November, when the first reports of successful vaccines also began to trickle in. After that, they increased steadily until March.

According to industry experts Fortune spoke to, it doesn't stop at searches and bookings are also starting to increase.

”It’s basically Covid revenge travel,” Henry Harteveldt, travel analyst at Atmosphere Research Group, told Fortune.

”"We're tired of being stuck at home. As more and more people get vaccinated, they get out on the roads and in the air, and hotels benefit from that," he says.

It is primarily resort and luxury hotels that appear to be benefiting from the trend, and the high demand means that several hotels located in popular holiday destinations have been able to raise prices.

”When we think about a weekend getaway… we usually try to treat ourselves to something,” says Henry Harteveldt. ”And many people saved their money during the pandemic.”.
