UC's latest statistics for the month of September show an increase in bankruptcies in eight out of ten of the industries included in UC's bankruptcy statistics. Overall, bankruptcies in Sweden have increased by 13 percent during September compared to the same month last year.

In the transportation industry, bankruptcies have once again picked up speed and increased by 43 percent in September.

– This shows that the bankruptcy trend in Sweden has not yet stabilized. What we have seen in recent months is that things are going up and down for several industries. IIn the transport sector, this is probably a temporary increase – in 2021, bankruptcies have decreased by 8 percent in total compared to last year. Easing restrictions also provide good opportunities for those parts of the industry that are linked to service and the hospitality industry – taxi companies that have been hit hard during the pandemic can look forward to more trips. It remains to be seen how business aviation will develop in the future, but tourism will increase, which will benefit airlines and bus companies in particular, says Richard Damberg, economist at UC.
