Earlier this year, there were problems with long waiting times for passport collection and delayed passports. The situation has eased, but instead, a bit of the opposite has started to happen in several places in the country - people not collecting their passports and therefore leaving them lying around at passport offices.
For example reported P4 Norrbotten on July 6th about passports that were piling up at the police in Boden and Luleå. The police then issued an appeal to people to collect their passports.
The passport office in Malmö has had the same problem and will try to solve it by staying open extra on Sunday, July 17.
According to the police's national media center, the problem exists in several places in the country, but to varying degrees.
A travel document that has not been collected for three months is normally cancelled and the person who has not collected their travel document must then make a new application and pay a new application fee.
