The Green Party wants to introduce a price cap of 100 kronor per month for bus and train tickets.

The proposal is made against the backdrop of the heat wave that parts of Europe have seen recently, says spokesperson Märta Stenevi in a press release.

”When the world is literally on fire from extreme weather, we cannot spend more money on fossil fuels. We urgently need to rethink now and redirect support to public transport and food instead of petrol.”

The Green Party wants the Riksdag's Finance Committee to interrupt the summer break for an emergency meeting. Stenevi criticizes the other parties for wanting to lower fuel taxes, as this will make it more difficult to achieve the climate goals. The price cap proposal has drawn inspiration from Spain and Germany, where the latter country has introduced a "nine euro ticket" for all public transport for a month.
