This year, international guests have returned to Göta Canal with a bang. The increase is noticeable both among leisure boat guests and on passenger boats, says Magnus Hollwin, Marketing and Communications Manager at AB Göta Kanalbolag.
–The number of foreign pleasure boats has increased by 140% up to and including August compared to the year before the pandemic. Most often, visitors are from the Nordic countries and northern Europe. But there are also boats that have traveled considerably further, where the Göta Canal becomes a fascinating part of a long journey, says Magnus Hollwin.
Swedish boat guests have been waiting
–There have been a few fewer Swedish boats this season compared to last year, which can certainly be explained by higher fuel prices and the cost of living in general. It does not seem to have affected the foreign visitors' desire to travel to the same extent. The international guests usually travel the entire Göta Canal and with larger boats, continues Magnus Hollwin.
