Västra Götaland's candidate Pater Noster – A Home on the Horizon wins the 2022 Great Tourism Prize. It was announced yesterday when the prize was awarded at a ceremony at the Vasateatern in Stockholm.
– It is a great privilege to work with this, and it means a lot to the entire local area and the region, not least to the Swedish Property Board, which believes in us and our work. All of us who work at Pater Noster love the island, the magical views and the changes in weather and the conditions for creating great guest experiences. Now we are aiming even more to elevate the destination so that even more guests find their way here, says Mirja Lilja Hagsjö, CEO and founder of Pater Noster – A Home on the Horizon.
The Stora Turismpriset is awarded to a company or other organization that has contributed to the development of the tourism industry in a new and innovative way. In addition, the company must work methodically and purposefully to develop, disseminate and share knowledge and to develop a sustainable business. The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development is the principal of the Foundation for Knowledge Promotion of Tourism, which awards the award. The winner is awarded 100,000 kronor to be used for a knowledge promotion effort.
Luxury hotel in an old lighthouse keeper's residence
Pater Noster is a luxurious and exclusive hotel accommodation located in the old lighthouse keeper's residence at Pater Noster on the island of Hamneskär in the sea off Marstrand in Bohuslän. The concept was launched in the summer of 2020 and is signed by the Gothenburg design agency Stylt Trampoli and its founder and creative director Erik Nissen Johansen, who is also one of the partners in Pater Noster.
Since opening in 2020, Pater Noster has been named the world's best hotel concept, one of the best hotels in the world of the decade, and was part of the goodie bag awarded to nominated actors and directors at the 2021 Oscars. In addition, it participated in the acclaimed concept "Isolated Cinema" in collaboration with the Gothenburg Film Festival 2021, when a private person was allowed to spend an entire week alone out on Hamneskär and watch films from the festival program. This generated over 3,000 published articles worldwide.

It is the first time since 2013, when the Läckö Slott Foundation won, that a western Swedish tourism company has taken home the Grand Tourism Prize.
