Germany's main train drivers' union, the GDL, has called a strike starting Wednesday after negotiations broke down. The strike is scheduled to last until Friday, making it one of the longest ever called by the train drivers' union.
Last year, the GDL carried out several short strikes. The state-owned railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) criticizes the union.
”The strike is not only completely unnecessary, we also believe it lacks legal basis,” says a representative for the railway company.
DB has also filed a complaint against the strike, which is hitting German freight traffic hard, among other things.
The union is demanding wage increases to compensate for high inflation and modified working hours. The GDL represents around 10,000 employees.
