Swedish freight company Green Cargo is stopping all trains to the continent, as a result of a German train driver strike.

The German freight train drivers' strike began on Tuesday evening and is expected to continue until Friday. Green Cargo is citing "force majeure".

– We have introduced a so-called ban on sending trains to the continent, we are not running any trains, they are stopping in Malmö. This is because the trains will not be able to enter Germany due to the strike, so they are best off in Malmö, says Stephan Ray.

According to him, a double-digit number of trains usually roll out to the continent in both directions. This includes export goods and parts for the automotive industry, for example, and input goods from Europe that are destined for Swedish factories.

– It could have significant consequences if the strike continues and stocks begin to run low, says Stephan Ray, press manager at Green Cargo.

The strike is mainly about wages and working hours and is expected to last until Friday evening. On Wednesday, a strike also began among passenger train drivers, which also continues until Friday. SJ's trains to Germany will not be affected, according to Sveriges Radio Ekot.
