There was a significant boost to travel and consumption during the celebration of the Chinese New Year this year, reports the state-run Chinese television channel CCTV.

A total of 474 million tourist trips were recorded during the celebrations, which began on February 10 and ended on Saturday, a 19 percent increase over the same period in 2019, according to CCTV, citing statistics from China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

In total, tourist consumption during this year's Chinese New Year celebrations increased by almost 8 percent to 633 billion yuan (equivalent to 915 billion SEK), according to the report.

Compared to last year – when years of pandemic restrictions still characterized the reopened China – the increase was even greater: up 34 percent for travel and 47 percent for consumption.
