Following the fires that broke out on Kos in Greece on Monday, Swedes are now being evacuated from the area. Both Tui and Apollo have tourists who are being moved to other hotels.

It is about people who are in the Kardamena area.

”At the moment, three hotels in the area are being evacuated. They will be taken to a safe location nearby. Step two will be to find hotels and conference facilities on the island where we can transfer the guests,” Adam Györki, Tui's Head of Communications, told TT.

At present, no more of their travellers need to be evacuated.

”We have prepared with transport and tried to find solutions during the day. Then we received this message late in the evening and acted as quickly as possible.”

It is unclear how close the hotels are to the fire, but travellers have reportedly smelled smoke and seen aircraft engaged in firefighting operations.

”The assessment is that one needs to work in the area during the night, and then one doesn't want tourists in the hotels,” says Györki.

Apollo will also evacuate Swedish tourists in the area to other hotels. They have approximately 80 travellers on Kos, but not all will need to leave.

”At the moment, four of our hotels are being evacuated,” says Frida Johansen Larsson from Apollo’s press office.

Ving is also evacuating travellers, according to Expressen.
