A plane full of Russian tourists on their way home from Egypt had to land in the Estonian capital Tallinn on Sunday, Estonian and Finnish newspapers report.

The plane was en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to Saint Petersburg, but the airport in the Russian city was temporarily closed due to Ukrainian drone attacks, NTB writes.

The plane and passengers were later able to continue their journey to Saint Petersburg.

Russian aircraft are banned from EU airspace and airports as part of sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine just over three years ago.
