EU Commission rules that rising fuel prices are not force majeure. If a flight is cancelled, passengers are entitled to compensation.

In May, global air traffic will decrease by two million seats as a result of rising jet fuel prices. However, jet fuel prices are not extraordinary circumstances, clarifies the EU Transport Commissioner, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, in an interview with Financial Times.

He admits that the situation is strained, but emphasises that the current rules are sufficient for the time being.

The EU Commission will this week present guidelines for airlines and travellers affected by the Iran war.
