German drivers account for the most roadside assistance cases among foreign travelers in Sweden in the summer of 2026. At the same time, the number of cases for Dutch vehicles is increasing sharply, according to new statistics from SOS Roadside Assistance.

Sweden attracts many tourists from other parts of Europe during the summer months. When a trip is interrupted by vehicle problems, it is mainly engine failure and punctures that are behind the need for roadside assistance.

Statistics from SOS Road Assistance show that German motorists account for the most assistance cases during the summer of 2026. This is followed by Danes and Norwegians, while the Netherlands and Finland rank fourth and fifth respectively.

Dutch motorists increase by 32 percent

The clearest increase comes from the Netherlands. The number of assistance requests for Dutch vehicles has risen by 32 percent over the past two years.

– For those who are far from home, an engine failure or a flat tire can quickly put their vacation plans on hold. Our task is to ensure that help arrives quickly so that the trip can continue as smoothly as possible, says Bjarne Lindén, network manager at SOS Road Assistance.

The most common reasons why foreign drivers need help are engine failure, flat tire and electrical failure.

Fewer collisions with foreign vehicles

At the same time, the number of collisions involving foreign vehicles has decreased significantly. SOS Road Assistance states that the number of accidents has dropped by 78 percent compared to the same period last year.

– It is positive that we are seeing fewer collisions among foreign motorists. At the same time, most of our assignments deal with more everyday problems such as engine failures and punctures, where quick help can make a big difference for the traveler and create a positive image of Sweden despite the circumstances, says Bjarne Lindén.

Most assistance cases in the summer of 2026: Germany, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Finland.
