SAS is returning to India after a 17-year absence. On October 1, 2026, the airline will start a new direct route between Copenhagen and Mumbai, which will operate five times a week all year round.
The new route will be operated with an Airbus A330 with 266 seats and will be SAS's first direct connection to India in 17 years. The initiative also strengthens Copenhagen Airport as an international hub, with connections further within the SAS network to New York, Boston and Toronto, among others.

“We are incredibly excited to soon be able to welcome passengers on board our new direct route to Mumbai. The strategic route is an important milestone for SAS and creates seamless connections between Scandinavia and one of the world's most dynamic economic centers,” says Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS.
The inaugural flight from Copenhagen will depart on October 1. SAS will fly from Copenhagen on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, departing at 4:10 PM and arriving in Mumbai at 4:30 AM the following morning.
In the opposite direction, traffic from Mumbai will start on October 3. The flight departs at 6:30 a.m. and lands in Copenhagen at 12:15 p.m.
Strengthening relations between Scandinavia and India
Mumbai is India's financial center and the new year-round route targets both business and leisure travelers. SAS also highlights the opportunities for increased cultural and economic exchange between India and Northern Europe.
The launch takes place in the same year that SAS celebrates its 80th anniversary.
Tickets for the new Copenhagen-Mumbai route are now on sale.
