This autumn, the restaurant Tawana will open at Malmö Central Station. It will be a flavourful addition to the newly renovated food court in the form of Afghan street food with Scandinavian influences.
At Malmö Central Station, people from all over the world meet morning, noon, evening, and in between. A new food and meeting concept is currently taking shape here, a food court that whets the appetite for both taste experiences and seating.
The aim is to create a food court for all tastes and occasions. Fredrik Elfvén, project manager for the redevelopment of the food court at Jernhusen, explains:
– All in all, you'll be able to choose from over 200 different dishes, so I'd really like to believe there'll be something for everyone! And the best part is that you can sit together, even if you fancy different things.
Tawana is the first new addition to join the existing restaurants and community at Malmö Central Station. Founder Hamid Tawana is a well-established restaurateur in Malmö, with both Italian and healthy poké bowls in his kitchens. But for the station's food court, he is bringing out the best from his family recipe.
– Afghan rice, with all its lovely flavours and spices such as saffron, coriander, basil and turmeric, is something we always cook at home. For the first time, we are now doing it in a completely new concept, says Hamid Tawana.
Tawana's speciality will be a fusion of Afghan flavours wrapped in the Scandinavian trend of wraps. Fresh vegetables are accompanied by pomegranate, chicken, salmon or vegetarian options. Various sauces are served alongside.
Tawana is planned to open in the autumn. Hamid Tawana looks forward to being part of the community at Malmö Central Station, both among the kitchens and the guests:
– Malmö Central Station is a vibrant hub for both locals and travellers. When I travel myself, it's always from here that I depart. Now we will be offering a completely new experience with new flavours and quick meals in an environment that welcomes the thousands of people who pass through here every day.
About the food court at Malmö Central Station
A careful and tasteful renovation of the station's food court is currently underway. The existing restaurants will continue to be open, except when their individual units are being renovated. Italian, Asian, salads, Japanese, and Ottoman cuisine are served here today.
The new food and meeting concept is expected to be fully ready during the second half of 2025. There is still room for more restaurateurs, and we look forward to welcoming a couple more operators who can complement the exciting offering.
