Several people have been injured and one is missing after a minor volcanic eruption triggered an avalanche at a popular ski resort in Japan.

Japan's meteorological agency is urging people to stay away from the Kusatsu-Shirane volcano in the country's central region.

Four people who were in a cable car at the time of the incident were injured by shattered glass. Up to 15 people may have been injured by rocks that came out of the volcano, according to local media.
