The woman who prevented an airplane from taking off at Landvetter to stop a deportation received her sentence today from the Gothenburg District Court.

She is sentenced to a fine for violating the Aviation Act.

It was at the end of July that activist Elin Ersson refused to sit in her seat on a plane that was about to take off from Landvetter Airport to Istanbul.

According to the indictment, she walked around inside the aircraft, stood up in the aisle and refused to sit down, despite crew members repeatedly urging her to do so.

She did this to stop a deportation to Afghanistan. But the boy Elin Ersson wanted to help with her action was not on the plane, writes the news agency TT.

The deportation that was instead to be carried out with the current plane concerned a middle-aged man who had served a prison sentence. The boy was deported on a different occasion, writes the news agency TT.

Elin Ersson was charged with violating the Aviation Act, but she denies any wrongdoing.

Her lawyer, Tomas Fridh, also does not believe that her actions are covered by the Aviation Act.

– The plane was on the ground and the instructions she received did not come from the commander, Fridh said at the trial.

The prosecutor demanded that Ersson be sentenced to 14 days in prison, but the district court is content with a daily fine.

”"The crime is not more serious than a fine is a sufficient penalty," the court wrote in a press release.
