Delta Air Lines announced on Monday that it will resume service between Seattle and Shanghai on June 25. Delta will thus become the first American airline to fly between the United States and China since February.
In a press release, Delta says there will be two flights per week between Seattle and Shanghai starting Thursday. In July, the company will also fly to Shanghai from Detroit.
”"We are pleased to resume our services between the United States and China, at a time when economic and social activity is beginning to recover," the company writes.
Delta becomes the first US airline to resume service to China after a four-month halt. Not a single passenger flight to China has taken off from US soil since February, when the coronavirus pandemic shut down virtually all international air travel.
In Monday trading on Wall Street, Delta's shares are down 1.0 percent. Since the beginning of the year, the share has halved in value.
According to Reuters, United Airlines also has plans to resume service to China in the near future.
