Air France-KLM became a shareholder in SAS in the wake of the airline's 2023 reconstruction, where it, along with the Danish state, international financier Castlelake, and Danish billionaire Henrik Lind, took over ownership.

The Franco-Dutch airline has owned 19.9 percent of the shares in SAS since then, but is now considering increasing its holding, Air France-KLM's CEO Ben Smith told Reuters. The reason is that the company has achieved certain necessary milestones, including membership in the airline alliance SkyTeam, of which Air France-KLM is also a member.

The same Reuters article also states that Air France-KLM is interested in buying a stake in the Spanish airline Air Europa.

SAS had its last trading day on the Stockholm Stock Exchange on August 13 last year.
