Air France-KLM wants to renew its vehicle fleet and will therefore place an order for 50 long-haul aircraft from Airbus, according to a press release.
The airline intends to order a total of 50 Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft with the option to purchase an additional 40 aircraft. First deliveries are expected in 2026, it said in a statement. the press release from Air France-KLM.
”"This order is a major step in the renewal of the group's fleet. It (the Airbus 350) is an excellent fit for us with its outstanding performance; it is quieter, more fuel-efficient and cost-effective compared to previous models," says CEO Benjamin Smith in the press release.
The idea is that the new 350 planes will replace the company's Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 planes.
Air France-KLM has previously ordered 41 Airbus A350-900s for the Air France fleet, of which 22 have been delivered. The new announced order is in addition to that order.
As of September 25 this year, the aviation giant had a total of 533 aircraft in its fleet, and with the new order, over 220 planes on order. The company expects that the fleet will consist of 64 percent of ”new generation aircraft” by 2028.
Both Air France-KLM and Airbus are listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. They closed down 3.7 and 0.7 percent, respectively, in Monday's trading.
