During the day, airport staff across Italy will go on strike. This includes everything from airport employees to ground staff and baggage handlers.

The strike is national and affects almost all major airports around the country. One of the consequences is expected to be major delays and cancellations of flights. Only certain flights to the islands of Sardinia, Sicily and Lampedusa are exempt. 

It is four hours long and starts at one o'clock, Euronews reports. At Milan airport, several flights have already been canceled, including one to Ibiza and one to Barcelona. 

The reason for the strike is that the airport staff requires improved safety and better working conditions. 

Also Spain and Portugal

In Spain, the staff of the airline Volotea is also on strike. This applies to both pilots and other staff. The company is one of Spain's most popular airlines and flies to over 100 destinations in Europe. In Portugal, Menzies Aviation is on strike, which primarily affects travel to and from Lisbon and Porto.
