Swedish aviation continued to recover from the pandemic in 2023. More than 32 million passengers flew through Swedavia's airports during the year.

This represents an increase of 17 percent compared to 2022 and corresponds to approximately 80 percent of the level before the corona pandemic.

”"The recovery in aviation continued in 2023 with strong development for international travel, while the weaker trend for domestic traffic strengthened somewhat towards the end of the year," says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO, in a press release.

Travel abroad increased by 19 percent in 2023 to nearly 24 million travelers. Domestic travel increased by 10 percent in total.

In December, a total of just over 2.2 million passengers travelled through Swedavia's airports. The number of people travelling abroad increased by 10 percent. Domestic travel, in turn, decreased by 21 percent during December.

According to Abrahamsson, Swedavia's operational capability at the airports has been good during the year – especially at Arlanda thanks to the new security check.

Swedavia writes that last year's trends are expected to persist into the beginning of 2024, with the economic and external situation as continuing factors of uncertainty.
