Air travel continues to recover after the pandemic.
For the fourth month in a row, the number of travelers at Swedavia's airports reached nearly three million.
”"After a travel-intensive summer, we are pleased to note that demand for both domestic and international travel remains strong in September," says Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia, in a press release.
Swedavia's ten airports had a total of just over 2.8 million passengers in September. This is 97 percent more than last year's September figures. It also corresponds to 77 percent of the passengers for September 2019, which is the highest figure since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The development is mainly driven by increased international travel. Of the slightly more than 2.8 million travelers in September, over two million were international travelers, corresponding to an increase of 111 percent year-on-year.
”"The need to travel, both to meet friends and family but also for work, is great after several years of the pandemic. This despite increasing economic turmoil and an uncertain world," says Abrahamsson.
