Air travel reached levels not seen since before the pandemic in July, according to traffic statistics from state-owned Swedavia. Increased demand for travel to Europe from Arlanda explains the rise.
Over 3.2 million passengers flew via Swedavia's ten airports during July, which is an increase of 14 percent compared to the same month last year.
It is the single strongest travel month since October 2019, according to the state-owned company. For the third month in a row, at least three million travelers have traveled via one of Swedavia's airports.
”"The month is seasonally one of our strongest and important for both our airline customers and Swedavia, but also for our travelers who visit family and friends or travel on a summer vacation both within and outside the country," says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO, in a press release.
International travel increased by 16 percent to just over 2.7 million travelers compared to July last year. Domestic travel increased by 8 percent to almost 600,000 travelers.
