Air travel is on the way to recovering from the pandemic. ”But we are still far from a new normal,” says Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO of Swedavia.

During the month of July, just over 1.4 million passengers flew from Swedavia's ten Swedish airports. This was less than half the number of passengers compared to July 2019 before the pandemic. The decrease was 60 percent.

When people flew the least, during the pandemic year of 2020, almost three-quarters of passengers dropped out – the decrease in passenger numbers between 2019 and 2020 was 74 percent. But now travel is on the rise.

”During July, some of our airports had actually received half of their passengers back,” says Jonas Abrahamsson.

However, checking the new digital Covid certificate means that check-in takes longer.

”We appeal to our travelers to arrive at the airport in plenty of time,” says Jonas Abrahamsson.
