Aircraft giant Airbus raises its forecast for demand for aircraft over the next 20 years.
The company is raising its forecast by more than 7 percent to 37,400 aircraft, worth $5.8 trillion at today's prices, while introducing new categories for small and extra-large aircraft, blurring the traditional line between aircraft types.
Small aircraft, with a maximum of 230 seats, dominate the outlook. They are forecast to account for 76 percent of all units delivered over the next 20 years.
Extra-large aircraft, with 350 seats or more, will account for only 1,590 units over the next two decades. Competitor Boeing has a forecast that assumes demand is 41,030 aircraft over the next 20 years.
