Aircraft manufacturer Airbus plans to cut its workforce by around 15,000 employees globally in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The company also predicts that air traffic will not return to previous levels before 2023 or potentially as late as the end of 2025. 

Of the affected employees, 5,100 people work in Germany, 5,000 people in France, 1,700 in the UK, 900 in Spain and 1,300 people work at the company's other facilities around the world. 

”Airbus is facing the most serious crisis the industry has ever experienced,” said Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, in a comment. 

In a press release, Airbus writes that layoffs cannot be ruled out, but that the company will use voluntary layoffs and early retirement to the extent possible.
