A loud bang was heard from an engine on a passenger plane during a flight between Bromma and Malmö on Saturday afternoon, writes Sydsvenskan.

A fireball was seen in connection with the explosion.

”"We saw a flash of light outside the windows where we were sitting and then there was a very loud bang," one of the passengers on board told Sydsvenskan.

According to Anna Soltorp at the press office at Bra Airlines, something happened to one of the plane's four engines shortly before it reached cruising altitude after taking off from Bromma. There was a loud bang and vibrations occurred in the aircraft.

”"The plane has four engines, so it can definitely handle it even if there is something wrong with one of the engines," says Anna Soltorp to TT.

”"The captain therefore chose to continue to Malmö and the landing was carried out completely undramatically."”

There were 80 passengers on board the Avro RJ aircraft.

It is unclear what caused the engine failure and the plane will now undergo a technical examination.
