On Thursday morning, a Southwest Airlines flight was stopped while attempting to take off from Florida. The pilot and crew had confused the taxiway and the runway, American media reports.

The aircraft attempted to take off from the taxiway, the area used for aircraft to travel from the gate to the runway.

”"The crew mistook the surface for the nearby runway," the airline said in a statement.

No one was physically injured, but travelers were delayed for several hours.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.
