Ryanair is now banning hot drinks on board, such as coffee. Anyone who violates the ban risks a fine. The rules are being introduced after a passenger received 57,000 kronor in compensation after being scalded by coffee, writes Daily Newspaper.

Ryanair is now choosing to ban travelers from bringing coffee and other hot drinks on board their flights, reports Dagbladet. 

The new rules apply even if you have purchased the hot drink in a shop at the airport.

According to the newspaper, the low-cost airline states in its terms and conditions that they "cannot allow passengers to board with hot drinks" and that the cups will henceforth be stopped at the gate.

BBC has recently reported that Denise Elliot, 63, had steaming hot coffee spilled on her aboard a Ryanair flight. 

The British woman, who was travelling from Bournemouth to Mallorca, had bought coffee on the plane. However, there were no lids on board the flight, and Denise is said to have later injured herself when the hot coffee spilled on her.

After a settlement between her and the company, Denise Elliot reportedly received 4,350 pounds, just over 57,000 kronor, as a band-aid. 

Risk of fines

Most airlines now allow hot drinks on board. In addition to Ryanair, low-cost competitor Jet2 has also banned coffee during flights. 

Anyone who defies the new rules risks a fine, according to Dagbladet. The newspaper writes that travelers who take hot drinks on the plane could be fined 50 Norwegian kronor, approximately 47 Swedish kronor.
