Airlines American Airlines, United Airlines, Lufthansa and International Airlines Group (IAG) want to restart air traffic between the United States and Europe.
In a letter, they therefore appeal to EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson and US Vice President Mike Pence to introduce a joint COVID-19 testing program for passengers.
”"We recognize that testing presents a number of challenges, but we believe that a testing program for the transatlantic market could be a good opportunity for governments and the industry to work together to overcome obstacles and explore all solutions to protect health, build trust, and safely restore passenger traffic between the United States and Europe," the airline giants write in the letter.
According to Lufthansa spokesperson Andreas Bartels, the companies believe that there are opportunities for corona tests at the airports.
