Due to the Coronavirus, airlines are now offering passengers the option to reschedule or cancel their trips to and from China. However, no flights are being canceled. Freja Annamatz is press manager at SAS.
– Above all, it is about offering our travelers and customers the opportunity to make their own decisions. It is also the case that in China there is a travel ban, not least when it comes to group travel, and this is a way for us to give everyone the opportunity to decide for themselves whether they want to travel now or later or cancel their trip.
Since yesterday, SAS has been offering everyone who has booked tickets to or from China a month in advance the opportunity to rebook or cancel their trips free of charge. The airline flies between Kastrup in Copenhagen and Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Finnair, which flies to China from several Swedish airports via Helsinki, also decided this weekend that passengers will be able to rebook or cancel their tickets. It is too early to say how many have chosen to take advantage of the offer so far, according to Freja Annamatz at SAS.
– This weekend, a lot of Chinese agents for group travel got in touch, but otherwise I have no information on how much, but interest has clearly increased in recent days.
But the airlines still plan to fly as usual. So far, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not changed its travel recommendations, and SAS expects the next regular flight, which will depart on Wednesday, to operate as usual.
– We are following developments closely, but at present we plan to fly as usual.
