The airline Nova Airlines must pay a penalty fee of just over 44 million SEK to the state, according to a decision from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

This is because the transfer of emission rights for greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 has not taken place on time, the authority writes in a press release.

According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the penalty fee is unusually high.

”"The reason for the high amount is that according to the regulation it should be calculated on the number of emission rights that the company should have surrendered," the press release states.

The airline Nova Airlines went bankrupt last year. According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the penalty fee is directed at the company and the bankruptcy estate.

”"One difficulty we have had in the dialogue with the bankruptcy trustee is that they did not want to take responsibility for this, so we have put the decision to both the bankruptcy estate and the company. It remains to be seen what the outcome will be since the decision has been appealed," says Kristin Sinclair at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency in the press release.
