The charter company TUI has two Boeing planes that the organizer chose to park after the fatal crash in Ethiopia.
The aircraft are mainly used for trips to and from the Canary Islands. ”We will transport all passengers on other aircraft,” says TUI's press manager Adam Györki.
TUI Group has 15 planes of the affected model, Boeing 737 Max 8, in its fleet. Two of them operate in the Nordic region, mainly to the Canary Islands.
On Tuesday afternoon, the tour operator chooses to temporarily suspend its plans following directives from the UK.
”"We have had an ongoing discussion about whether we should fly this aircraft, if it was safe. We had indications that it was, but when the British Civil Aviation Authority chose to stop the flights, we chose to listen to that authority," says Adam Györki, press communicator at TUI Sweden.
The two aircraft used in the Nordic region are newly purchased. TUI currently has no answer as to how long they will be grounded and whether they will be in service again.
”"We need more time to discuss this issue and then we will discuss it with the relevant authorities and with the manufacturer. We will inform all our customers who are affected by this decision about what applies.".
At this time, all affected TUI customers will be flown on other aircraft.
