All departing flights from Brussels Airport are cancelled on Monday due to the national strike day by the trade unions. 

In total, there are around 440 departures, writes the Belgian newspaper De Standaard.

The strike concerns employees of the security company G4S. With the strike expected to result in so few employees manning the security checkpoint, waiting times were estimated to exceed eight hours. Therefore, the decision was made to cancel all flights.

”We cannot guarantee the safety of travelers,” says Nathalie Pierard, press spokesperson for Brussels Airport, to the newspaper De Standaard.

She does not rule out that it could lead to longer waiting times on Tuesday as well due to additional flights being scheduled.
