All flights to and from Greece are canceled on Thursday

A nationwide strike among air traffic controllers is scheduled to take place in Greece on Thursday.

The strike is planned to last 24 hours.

All flights to and from Greece will therefore be cancelled from 00.01 on Thursday night.

The reason for the strike is the train accident that occurred on February 28, when 57 people died when a passenger train and a freight train collided near the city of Larissa in Greece.

The strike has been called by the country's largest unions in the private and public sectors and is the latest in a series of protests against the conservative government and against a political system that they say has repeatedly ignored calls from unions for safety measures, Greek media report.
